Week 15: Phase 3 - The steps of woe. Wk commencing 7th June

Feeling rough this week, so not been going mad, just doing a little bit most nights. The biggest issue is the dirt that comes out - where does it go. I have to keep in mind there's a load of dirt that needs to come out from the patio area in the future and I'd rather just one more lorry taking dirt away at £280 a go, not 2! So If I can get all that patio dirt and the steps dirt taken away in one visit that'll be a result but it does seem to be a logistical problem.

Maybe if I fill up the garden, I can start filling bags and leaving them in the lay-by just up the road ready for the lorry to take away? That seems like an option that may be viable? Especially if all the patio dirt comes out one day and gets taken away the next day along with all the garden dirt?

Monday

There's a lot of dirt coming out of this section as I imagined see the images below for the progress over the week. Over this last week I was doing a little at a time with a lot more done on Sunday 13th.

June 13th Below...

Decided to start to cut into the upper garden to make the step channel/cutting - not sure what to call it.

On Sunday one of things I started to do was get all the good stuff down to bottom half of the garden ready for when the grabber comes, so that I've only really got crap up the top. I've basically got to get as much dirt out of the stairway channel as possible and if there's any need for in-fill I'm hoping to use the slabs at the bottom for that job which'll also mean it's going to be solid. I did realise as well on Sunday that the middle section of the steps will have quite a high section of sleepers either side and that they'll actually be retaining the grass and garden either side. Thankfully the strength needs to be at the lower levels and these will be supported and held in place by all the slabs that will form the base of the steps. The steps as suspected are definitely one of the more complex parts of the job, certainly the most difficult so far.
